Feis weekend information

The third annual Atlantic Canadian Irish Dance Championships will take place April 27 & 28, 2024. CLRG grade exams will also be held on April 26, 2024. The ACIDC will be held in the heart of downtown Halifax and will consist of two, full-syllabus feiseanna at the spectacular Westin Nova Scotian. The ACIDC are run in partnership with Rising Tide Irish Dance Academy.

Discover Halifax has created a dedicated page for families, dancers, judges, and supporters that outlines everything you’ll need to know to make the most of your visit to our seacoast city. Check it out at businesseventshalifax.com/events/acidc-2024. They’ve also added ACIDC to the Show Your Badge program, entitling attendees to discounts and deals throughout the downtown. From local food tours to souvenirs, to local experiences, you’ll save on the best the city has to offer!

Both feis days begin at 8:30 a.m. Exact schedule is TBC for 2024.

Registration is open on iFeis.net. For full details of what’s on offer, please review the 2024 ACIDC Feiseanna Syllabus. Note that there are some differences between each feis day so please read the syllabus carefully. Please see below for clarity on adult championship dances and repeating dancers in figure competitions.

Saturday feis registration
Sunday feis registration

Early bird contest deadline: February 25, 2024
Late fees apply: March 18, 2024
Last day to register: April 12, 2024

The pre-sale period for this year’s official feis merch is now closed. All pre-orders will be available for pick-up at the venue on feis weekend. Limited stock will be available for purchase at the feis.

Adult Championship: Clarity has been requested for what dances are required for Adult Championship. Dancers must perform a reel (113bpm) or slip jig (113bpm), a treble jig (73bpm) or hornpipe (113bpm) and a traditional set. Reels and treble jigs must be 48 bars in length (three full steps). Slip jigs and hornpipes must be 40 bars in length (two and-a-half full steps). Traditional sets should be right and left foot of the step, and right foot of the set.

Dancers may repeat in the same age category for figure competitions, provided they follow the rules below. To accommodate this in iFeis, we require that the non-repeating dancer in the figure register on behalf of the full figure team. They should use the code for the desired figure that includes an ‘Add’ (example: F99-3Add O15). This code includes the full cost of the figure for all dancers (3 hands = $30, 4 hands = $40).

  • Dancers may not repeat in the same age category for two hands
  • In 3s and 4s, 50 per cent of the team may repeat in an age group (in 3s that means up to two dancers may repeat), however dancers can only repeat once in an age group.

Grade exams P-12 will be held during the daytime on Friday, April 26, 2024 at Rising Tide Irish Dance Academy’s studio (note this is not the feis venue). Applications for all levels are now closed. The examiner for this session is Rita O’Shea, SDCRG.

Download the schedule and need-to-know information about grade exams. This schedule has also been emailed to candidates. If you have questions about the grade exams, please contact Maggie Chapman.

Volunteer with us

Please review the available slots in our online form and click on the button to sign up. Most slots are for either the morning or the afternoon. Dancing will begin at 8:30 am, with doors opening at 7, and we are estimating lunch around noon, but as is always the case with feiseanna, exact times will fluctuate slightly. If you’re unable to stay for the full morning or afternoon, please sign up for the “put me where you need me” slots and we’ll utilize whatever time you are able to offer.

Load-in will begin at 6pm on Friday evening, and we’ll be completing as much prep-work in advance to ensure a quick and efficient set up.

If you are a parent, sibling, family member, or supporter of a competing dancer and you are volunteering during their competition time, we’ll make sure we have someone to cover your spot temporarily so you are able to step away to watch.

If you need confirmation of your volunteer hours for a school or community project, we are happy to provide that confirmation. Please send us an email (acidcvolunteers@gmail.com) to let us know what you need.

If you have any questions or concerns, or if you want to volunteer but can’t find a slot that fits your schedule, please email us at acidcvolunteers@gmail.com. Thank you for helping us make the ACIDC a success!
